Germany - Finland (Sunday 18:45 EAT)

Preview:

Germany’s final game on home soil before the 2026 FIFA World Cup sees them take on Finland in Mainz, a city to which they return for the first time since March 2023. The big headline from the German camp is the return to the national side of 40-year-old Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has come out of international retirement to help their bid for a fifth World Cup crown. He may not feature here given that he missed Bayern’s DFB-Pokal win over Stuttgart with a calf injury, but he returns to bolster the defense of a side in good form, with Germany having won each of their last seven games. Four of those victories were accompanied by a clean sheet, while Julian Nagelsmann’s side has also won their last four fixtures played on home soil.

Finland missed out on World Cup qualification after finishing well behind the Netherlands and Poland in their group, although they are unbeaten in regulation time in three matches since that qualification campaign ended, including winning the 2026 FIFA Series New Zealand in March. However, their 2-0 win over New Zealand in that competition remains the Eagle-Owls’ only victory on foreign soil since triumphing against Malta in March 2025, suggesting this trip will be a tricky one for a relatively inexperienced squad.
